An 18-year-old high school student at Lake Crystal Welcome Memorial is facing charges after police say he used counterfeit cash to pay for a homecoming fundraiser that allows students to pay to get out of class and have food and drinks provided by the student council.

Lake Crystal Police say Caleb Blekestad used three $20 bills stamped “for motion picture purposes” to get out of a third-hour class, and when confronted investigators say he refused to repay the money and ended the interview by walking out and slamming the door.

Blekestad claimed he didn’t know the money was fake, but the criminal complaint shows that several other students told police that he had earlier been bragging about having the bogus cash.
