A 19-year-old Mankato man is charged with criminal sexual conduct after police say he impregnated a 15-year-old girl.

The Mankato Department of Public Safety began investigating in early October after the victim’s mother reported her as a runaway. A note left behind stated that the victim intended to keep the baby and wait for Tahviaun Long to get out of prison.

Detectives obtained search warrants to confirm the baby’s paternity and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension found with a greater than 99.9 percent certainty that the child was fathered by Long.

OOfficialsnote that they responded to several domestic disturbances between Long and the victim, including one in which Long’s mother told dispatchers that her son was trying to kidnap the baby.

Long was previously convicted of car theft and running from police.
