A winter weather advisory will go into effect Friday afternoon for the greater Mankato area.
The National Weather Service says the advisory begins at 4:00 p.m. in Sibley, Redwood, Brown, Nicollet, and Watonwan Counties, and starts at 6:00 p.m. in Blue Earth, Le Sueur, Waseca, and other south-central counties.
Forecasters say total accumulations of two to four inches are expected in most of the region but some areas could see as much as five inches.
Brisk northerly winds will also accompany the snow, which meteorologists say will likely result in reduced visibilities and areas of blowing snow.
The advisory will remain in place through early Saturday morning.
