The Le Sueur County Sheriff has introduced the department’s newest officer…and he’s a bit hairy.
Sheriff Brett Mason said K-9 Deputy “Jett” was bred locally from Kozie Shepherds in Southern Minnesota and attended his K9 Academy along with Deputy Joe Kern at Performance Kennels in Buffalo Minnesota.
Jett is Nationally Certified by the National Police Canine Association and is certified in detecting drugs that include meth, cocaine, heroin, and marijuana.
He’s also a certified level two patrol dog, the highest level awarded in the NPCA. That certification involves obedience both on and off lead, off lead distant control, building and area searches as well as criminal apprehension.
Deputy Kern and Jett also became nationally certified in tracking human scent. They began patrolling together last week.
