The National Weather Service in Chanhassen issued a winter weather advisory just after noon Thursday for Redwood, Brown, Nicollet, Watonwan, Blue Earth, Martin, and Faribault Counties.
It impacts parts south of the Minnesota River Valley, mainly along a line from Morris to New Ulm and Mankato.
Forecasters say drivers can expect gusty northwest winds, light snow, and widespread blowing snow that will create dangerous conditions.
Meteorologists add that conditions should this evening as wind speeds decrease. The winter weather advisory will end at 6:00 p.m., but it will be followed by a wind chill advisory from 11:00 p.m. through 9:00 a.m. Friday.
