Forecasters have said there is increasing confidence that a winter storm will cause significant travel impacts this weekend, with the possibility of mixed precipitation or heavy snow forecast to hit the Mankato area Saturday and into Sunday – depending upon the exact track the impending system follows.

“Anything could change between now and then but it’s hinting at anywhere from eight to 14 inches of snow,” said WeatherEye meteorologist Megan Mulford, “So across our part and the southern parts of Minnesota. Again, that’s just kind of early predictions right now.”

Mulford explained that if the storm shifts a bit to the west more mixed precipitation is possible but a more eastward track would likely bring all snow.
