State lawmakers will likely soon vote on a compromise bill that bans cell phone use while behind the wheel–unless in hands-free mode.
The bill has strong bipartisan support and Representative Frank Hornstein of Minneapolis says one of the key reasons it’s moving forward: “It’s the families, it’s the people that have been directly affected by this issue that have lost loved ones. I believe that they were the people who turned the conversation around here at the Capitol. There was a time when we couldn’t even get a hearing on this bill.”
If signed into law, Minnesota would become the 18th state, along with the District of Columbia, to have such a hands-free law on the books.
