The city of Mankato received a grant for more than $48,000 from Blue Earth County’s Statewide Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP) to install Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons to help enhance pedestrian safety and provide connectivity to parks across roadways at:

  • Warren and Haynes streets (by Highland Park)
  • Warren and Malin streets
  • Maywood Avenue and Warren Street
  • Birchwood and Warren streets
  • South Road and Warren Street

Work is also scheduled for Riverfront Drive and Spring Street to serve as an interim solution until final design of Riverfront Drive corridor is approved and implemented. Project work is expected to begin within the next few weeks (weather permitting).

Grant criteria included credit for Mankato’s focus on providing multi-modal transportation opportunities to promote the safe and efficient movement of people, goods and services. Efforts align with a SHIP goal to help ensure all community members can walk and bike safely.
