With plenty of sunshine in the forecast and an excessive heat warning in effect for parts of the state, a Mayo Clinic expert is asking people not only to wear sunscreen but make sure you are applying it properly:

“The average person, in studies, only applies approximately one-third of the sunscreen that is recommended by volume, so, if you’re wearing an SPF 15, unfortunately, you’re only getting an SPF of 5 because of the way that you apply it.”

Besides using the proper amount of sunscreen, Dr. Dawn Davis says it’s important to re-apply every two hours; even sooner if you’re in the water or are sweating.
