U-S Senator Tina Smith is planning to introduce a bill she hopes will provide housing assistance opportunities that she says right now aren’t available to Minnesota’s tribal governments.

“This bill would fix that and put the tribal government on the same level with county governments and local governments so that they can participate in these housing programs that we know help to reduce homelessness.”

Smith says she heard first-hand stories of this issue from tribal leaders as her office hosted listening sessions on housing shortages statewide. The bill will be introduced in a bipartisan effort with Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski from Alaska.
