Members of the House Agriculture Committee are hearing from Minnesota farmers as part of a panel discussion at Farm Fest. Committee Chair Collin Peterson from Minnesota’s 7th district says they have worked to keep their committee bipartisan as they try to find solutions to help farmers, including a dairy assistance program.
“We’ve got the program there to help you make it through if we get into tough times. I would prefer the government don’t pay anything because that means the market is working. but this gives us a safety net and that’s what we’ve needed.”
Peterson says 61-percent of the dairy farmers in Minnesota have signed up for the program.
