Starting today DWI patrols will be beefed up across Minnesota. Mike Hanson with the State Office of Traffic Safety says the extra enforcement comes at a crucial time on the calendar.

“In the last 5 years in June, July, and August alone, 100 Minnesotans were killed as a direct result of an impaired driver. That is not acceptable in anybody’s book and it has to stop. And it stops with all of us being an active part of this solution.”

Hanson says more than 300 law enforcement agencies statewide will participate. The extra enforcement runs through Labor Day.
