Pizza is one of my favorite foods! I’m far from alone. The US is in love with pizza! Americans consume an average of 23 pounds of pizza per person, every year! This Sunday is National Pizza Day! I don’t know about you but I love all kinds. Thin crust, Chicago style, deep-dish, I don’t care. My favorite toppings start with a great sauce, then add fresh mozzarella, Italian sausage, pepperoni, and black olives, and I’m all in!

My love of the stuff goes back to my grandmother. She made her own spaghetti sauce, her lasagna was the stuff of ledges, and every now and then she’d make homemade pizza. She’d make her own crust, spread on some of her signature sauce, olive oil, mozzarella cheese, load it up with whatever was in the fridge (she usually had some fresh Italian sausage on hand) and pop it in the oven. It was awesome!

Since moving here from western Colorado I’ve only had two local pizza’s. I’ve shared here before my Papa Murphy’s Tuesday $10 pizza deal. You can’t beat it! I can grab one on Tuesday and eat on it all week. I’ve been to Pagliai’s Pizza a few times. It’s excellent! Their “Classic” is really good! I like the “Maverick” too! It’s only a couple of blocks from my place which is nice. What are some of the other area pizza joints I need to try? Dino’s Pizzeria, Jake’s Stadium Pizza, any others? What Mankato pizza place is your favorite? Whatever it is, try and get out and celebrate on Sunday, National Pizza Day! Share your pics with your pie on social media using the hashtag #nationalpizzaday! Let’s eat!
