Mankato Man Accused Of Being Drunk During Deadly ATV Crash

(Mankato, MN)  --  A Mankato man accused of causing a deadly ATV crash is now accused of being drunk at the time.  A criminal complaint accuses Joshua Wieland of having a blood-alcohol level over four-times the legal limit when he lost control of his ATV and crashed in South Bend Township last month.  The crash killed passenger Karissa Bode of North Mankato.  Investigators say Wieland told them Bode was driving the ATV, but surveillance shows he was actually in the driver's seat.  He's charged with criminal vehicular homicide.

A warmer-than-normal October is forecast for all of Minnesota.  The National Weather Service's October outlook shows the entire state has a 40 to 50-percent chance to see above normal temperatures.  Most of Minnesota has about equal chances for above or below normal precipitation.

M Health Fairview, Allina Health Mental Health Workers Schedule Strike

(Minneapolis, MN)  --  Mental health workers from M Health Fairview and Allina Health are moving forward with strike plans.  The workers filed a ten-day notice yesterday for a three-day planned strike if a labor agreement between the sides isn't reached.  The over 400 workers are members of Service Employees International Union Healthcare Minnesota and Iowa, who say they haven't been able to reach an agreement on a "fair first contract."  The union says 98-percent of its workers voted to support authorizing the strike.

Classes At Richfield Secondary Schools Canceled After Online Threats

(Richfield, MN)  --  Middle and high schools in the Richfield Public Schools are facing online threats.  Secondary school classes were canceled yesterday after threats were received early in the morning.  The decision followed a weekend shooting outside its high school football game last week.  The shooting led district officials to cancel the high school's homecoming dance Saturday night.  Elementary schools remained open.

State GOP Lawmaker Calls For Resignation Of Education Commissioner After Massive Meal Fraud Case

(St. Paul, MN)  --  State Senate Majority Leader Jeremy Miller is calling for the resignation of Minnesota Education Commissioner Heather Mueller.  Miller says the Education Commissioner failed to quickly shut down Feeding Our Future after concerns had been expressed about the organization's practices.  Nearly 50 people associated with the organization are accused in a massive meal fraud scheme.  DFL Governor Tim Walz's administration has commended Mueller's office for alerting the FBI to the fraud.
