A Renville County West school bus driver suffered a medical emergency behind the wheel Wednesday afternoon in Granite Falls on a busy highway.

The bus was stopped only after a daring rescue operation. Several witnesses called 911 saying the bus was on the wrong side of the road and had hit at least three vehicles on Highway 212. A Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s deputy performed a rolling road block, slowing the bus down enough for a passerby to jump out of his vehicle and reach in and place the bus in park. The driver of the bus was taken to the hospital–his condition is unknown. The deputy’s car was damaged while trying to stop the bus. Thankfully no one was hurt.
