Starting tomorrow (THU), Minnesota becomes the 16th state to enforce hands-free driving behind the wheel. Rochester Police Chief Jim Franklin is joining law enforcement officials statewide in asking Minnesotans to put their phones down…

“Many motorists perceive driving as mundane, routine, but it’s not, it takes focus, it takes situational awareness, it takes paying attention, the driving environment can change in an instant.”

Chief Franklin says there will be enhanced patrols watching for distracted drivers. And the campaign to educate drivers about the new law will continue in the days, weeks and months ahead.
