Federal prosecutors say a central New York man faces up to 20 years in prison for threatening to kill former President Barack Obama and California Congresswoman Maxine Waters. A jury convicted Stephen Taubert on Wednesday. The charges stemmed from phone calls, including racial slurs, that he made to Democratic Congressional offices. In 2018, Taubert called Waters' Los Angeles office and said he was going to kill the congresswoman and every member of her staff. Taubert called the Washington office of then-Minnesota-Sen. Five hurt, one seriously, in two separate Wednesday crashes; one near Mapleton, the other north of Waseca

An elderly woman was seriously hurt and two others were also injured in a crash in Mapleton on Wednesday. Minnesota State Troopers said 82-year-old Clint Lindemann pulled out from eastbound 134th Street to head north on Highway 22, into the path of another vehicle. Investigators added that the other driver, 31-year-old Amanda Stevermer, tried to swerve but couldn't avoid the collision. Clint Lindeman and Stevermer were hurt but are expected to recover. Officials said Lindemann's 80-year-old wife Dorothy, though, was taken to the Mayo Clinic campus in Rochester with injuries that appear to be life-threatening. Another area highway has reopened after floodwaters began to recede. MnDOT District 7 operations manager Jed Falgren said Highway 4 north of St. James is back open to traffic as of Thursday and Wednesday they were able to reopen Highway 30 east of Mapleton. Last night Falgren said the Highway 99 Minnesota River Bridge at St. Peter was shut down after an ice dam broke loose and caused a rapid rise in the water level. Gradually-warming daytime temperatures followed by night-time temperatures just below freezing means the snowpack has been trickling away, an ideal condition to limit flood concerns. More information has been released in the police standoff earlier this week in Mankato. The Mankato Department of Public Safety sent a detective to a home on North 5th Street to arrest 38-year-old Joshua Armendariz, who they said was released from jail while awaiting pending sentencing after pleading guilty to charges of making threats of violence, running from police, and felony domestic assault – but then violated the terms of his conditional release. MSU Gets Final Approval For Sports Bubble

A popular Chinese restaurant in Mankato closes its doors. According to its Facebook page, Yu's will no longer operate at its campus location. They are relocating and renaming to a spot in Eden Prairie. They thanked their customers for 20 years of service.

MSU Spring Football Practice Starts March 29

The Minnesota State football team will open its spring practice schedule on Friday, March 29, at the Blakeslee Stadium practice fields. MSU finished its 2018 season with a 13-1 record and advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament. The Mavericks also claimed their fourth NSIC Championship in the last six seasons. The Mavericks will take part in a total of 14 practices from March 29 through April 25. Three practices, including the first two, the players will wear helmets.
